Breaking News: Mass tonight at LA’s “La Placita”

Pro-life group organizes Holy Hour on eve of abortion vote in Mexico City

News Release from Mexican-Americans for Life

A Mass will be offered tonight at historic Our Lady Queen of Angels Church (better known to the Latino community as “La Placita”) to pray for a change of heart in the Mexico City legislators who are about to legalize abortion. After Mass, women who have had abortions will lead a recitation of the Holy Rosary. These women were hurt by abortion and they do not want other women to suffer. Now, they believe abortion is murder, and they pray it is not legalized in Mexico City.

A Holy Hour of Eucharistic adoration, one of the most powerful devotions available to Catholics, will follow the Mass and Rosary.

“As Catholics, we are aware that the most powerful means to move hearts and defend innocent human lives is prayer,” explains Alicia Leyva, spokeswoman for Mexican-Americans for Life, the group organizing this evening of prayer.

“St. Paul teaches us that ‘our struggle is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.’ We pray that politicians who favor legalized abortion will have a change of heart, that they will offer love and support to moms and babies, not deadly abortions. We’re also praying for mothers and babies in crisis pregnancies, that family and friends help them choose life.” Leyva also spoke against abortion at a press conference at the Mexican Consulate Friday morning.

The Mexico City legislative assembly will vote tomorrow on whether or not to legalize abortion on demand through the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. Mexican polls indicate that the majority of Mexicans oppose legalized abortion.
