BREAKING NEWS: May 22 now ‘Harvey Milk Day’ in California

Schwarzenegger signs bill requiring schools to honor homosexual rights activist

In a last minute flurry of bill signing and vetoing, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday signed into law a measure designating May 22 as an unpaid state holiday in honor of Harvey Milk. Milk was a homosexual rights activist assassinated in 1978 while serving as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and May 22 is his birthday.

Schwarzenegger’s action, taken in the last hours of the last day for the governor to act on bills sent to him from the legislature, represents a complete turnabout for the governor, who last year vetoed a nearly identical measure. At the time, Schwarzenegger said Harvey Milk celebrations were more appropriate at the local level, but not statewide. There was no immediate explanation from the governor’s office on the reason for Schwarzenegger’s change of heart.

Reaction from opponents of the bill – SB 572 – was quick. "Harvey Milk was a sexual predator of teens, an advocate of polygamous relationships, a public liar, and is in no way a good role model for impressionable schoolchildren," said Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, in a statement released this morning. "Sadly, children in public schools will now have even more in-your-face, homosexual-bisexual-transsexual indoctrination. This provides the strongest impetus yet for loving parents to remove their children from anti-family public schools."

"We don't know why the governor suddenly changed his mind and decided to impose a radical social agenda in every classroom," said Karen England, executive director of Capitol Resource, a pro-family lobbying group in Sacramento. "One possible explanation is the influence of the governor's Hollywood friends. After a biopic on Milk received Academy Award recognition earlier this year, Hollywood political activists began lobbying the governor to sign the resurrected Harvey Milk Day bill. It seems that the governor places more value in the opinion of his Hollywood friends and their values than the values of the people who voted him into office."

SB 572 requires the governor to “proclaim May 22 of each year as Harvey Milk Day, and would designate that date as having special significance in public schools and educational institutions and would encourage those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises on that date.”

This has the potential of being a real disaster for the public schoolchildren and most teachers in California. When it comes to social issues, this pitiful fraud we call governor is completely at the service of the homosexual and abortion lobbies, represented by the homosexual chiefs of staff of both himself and his wife. A possible ray of light is that public educational institutions are "encouraged," not mandated to observe the day with "appropriate" exercises, and one shudders to think what those might be. Unfortunately, it's easily predictable that too many school districts will interpret "encouraged" to mean "required," or "directed." We'd be better off with Gray Davis, at least then we wouldn't have a Trojan Horse in Sacramento.

I JUST HOPE PEOPLE 'OPT OUT' WHEN THIS DAY COMES AROUND....AND MAYBE THAT WILL SEND A MESSAGE TO THE GOVERNOR!!!!!! HOW SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted Monday, October 12, 2009 1:44 PM By Dan
What I wonder is -- will it be possible on that day to give a sober assessment of the man--or will it be PC fluff?

Posted Monday, October 12, 2009 2:28 PM By Laurette Elsberry
The only message that Schwarzenegger understands is what his pro-sodomite leaders tell him. He is surrounded in the State Capitol with homo-toadies.......Karen England is undoubtedly correct; since Schwarzenegger is a lame duck, he will be pandering more and more to the Hollywood crowd. Maybe Hollywood can find some appropriate acting vehicle for him - perhaps as an aging "gay" jock in a porn film.

BZ: Gray Davis would have at least taken a poll to gauge support. Unfortunately, who knows what he might have concluded? We should not kid ourselves on how unpopular support for unnatural behavior remains. We are close to being the minority position, and it does not help that we have so many weak (if not compromised) bishops running the local church. We really need an Ambrose or John Chrysostom to declare that any Catholic parent who sends his child to one of these "celebrations" on 5/22 is guilty of exposing the innocent to a near-occasion of sin, and so is any Catholic teaching in those schools. If 10-20% of students and faculty failed to show up, that would send a louder message than mere verbal protest.

There is no way my child will attend school on that day. May is the month of Mary, our Blessed Mother. Let us pray that she asks Jesus to pardon this gross abomination.

The culture of death has taken a major step forward in California. Our political leaders are mere lapdogs for the homosexual lobby and any other well funded forms of perversion. Our religious leaders are asleep at the switch. All serious Christian parents should now prepare to homeschool their children while that freedom is still available to them.

Matthew 19: 23-26 Jesus spoke to the disciples. "And further I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of heaven".The disciples hearing this were exceedingly astonished and said, "Who then can be saved?" And looking upon them, Jesus said to them. "With men this is impossible but with God all things are possible." Arnold Schwarzenegger's mother brought him to Mass each Sunday in Austria as a child. He admitted in an interview that his mother was the spiritual leader of the family who taught him right from wrong. How does Arnold repay his mother and Almighty God for his rich blessings? He crumbles mightily and legally authorizes the scandalizing of thousands and thousands of God's innocent children. What a shameful example to the faithful of Austria. I guess it was also impossible for Arnold Schwartzenegger to stand up and face the current California tide of evil that is hell-bent on sending souls to hell on a bullet train. Arnold has completely fallen prey and he is now serving the corrupt and evil ideals of ungodly men and women. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a disgrace to his Catholic faith and his mother's sacrifice and example. The Governor of California has once again openly proclaimed his rebellion against God. Thank God for His promise of "With God all things are possible."

Maybe we should start putting our efforts toward making parochial schools more accessible to those who want to opt out of the public schools but can't affort tuition at private ones.

Harvey Milk should not have been killled, but his behavior (he frequented the decadent bathhouses in San Francisco among other things) encouraged the behavior that led to the death of many young men by AIDS and other horrible diseases. He is not a good role model for anyone.

The people of CA will now need to have the will to resist this insult. And, while at it, perhaps someone will strip the "Republican" badge from the CA governor. What a complete Democrat he has turned out to be, and a moral coward to boot.

Just say NO.It's a civil right to reject indoctrination by the state.

I haven't had, and I certainly will never have any respect for this republican/conservative imposter, Schwartzenwhatever, especially after his caving into this piece of trash legistlation. Rest assured he will have to answer for his evil decision and resulting follow-on actions that are contrary to God's teachings and are very offensive to Almighty God. Pray tell why did he cave-in? Could it be he thought it was inevitable after last week's cave-in by the US House of Non-representatives whom voted and approved an amendment to the Defense Approppriations bill that added to the exisiting hate-crimes bill those actions contrary to the homosexuals and their evil agendas? If signed into US law, No Catholic and No Christian denomination whom teach against homosexuallity are safe. Could these state and federal actions be another way for Satan to destroy Chrisianity, especially in a Nation where there is Freedom of Religion, i.e., where the Government is not to impact the Church? I think Yes! This is so sickening and preposterous, why doesn't the CA legistlature and bum-duck govenator pass a law for a day to honor Charles Manson? There must have been some good "community actions" Manson had done, just like old Harvey the pedophile Milk! Homosexuality is a decadent life-style sindrome sponsored by Satan and it's not a disease. Murdering ones fellow man is also a decadent life-style sindrome. Feciciously speaking, why shouldn't both decandent life-styles be honored? Sorry but its time to go to the bathroom and throw-up! Lord have mercy on California for how blasphemous it is to You. We are sadly hurt and sorry how we have offended You. Please have mercy on us. Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ. Oh God by your only begotten's Son life, death, and resurrection has purchased for the the rewards of eternal life, grant we beseech thee that meditation upon the 15 mystery's of the Holy Rosary that we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through the same Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.

What about handing out Hostess Twinkies on that day each year?

"Rest assured he will have to answer for his evil decision and resulting follow-on actions that are contrary to God's teachings ..." Jerry, Governor Schwartzeneggar is the governor, not the Cardinal Primate. He represents all the people of California, not just the Catholics. State and federal actions against discrimination and hate crimes are surely not another way for Satan to destroy Christianity. And the homosexual orientation is not a "sindrome" sponsored by Satan. Also comparing Harvey Milk to Charles Manson is way over the top.

I'll take a couple of those Twinkies, JLS. I haven't had one of them in a while. Peace - Mark

It is a terrible tyranny under which we now live. Schools are required to honor Harvey Milk, precisely because he was homosexual. But schools are forbidden form honoring Jesus Christ because it would be offensive to non-Christians.So Christian sensitivites mean nothing in this culture of today. This American culture is losing any moral right it has to exist. Simillarly, the schools of Nazi Germany were required to honor Herr Hitler, and not to honor Jesus Christ. And subsequent to that, much of the German population, especially the youth, accepted that for which Hitler stood. So,too, this honor for Milk to be expressed in our schools is meant solely to instruct our youth with pro-homosexual propaganda. Am I saying that this new Schwartzeneggar bill is "Nazi"? You bet I am!

Posted Wednesday, October 14, 2009 2:43 PM By Jerry
You are right Mark, Schwartzenwhatever is suppose to represent the people of California, not just Catholics. However as govenator and claiming to still be a catholic he has a moral obligation to protect Californians and especially the children of this state from all evils. He has opened the door for innocent young children here to be educated about and learn to honor an abhored, decadent, sinful, anti-christian, and just plain-sick lifestyle, that obviously you see nothing wrong with it. This is the way the devil works, to devour the innocent children, and like you, Schwartzewhatever hasn't the grace to see the evil he has wrought on future generations. Good will not come of this, no only more malice and suffering. Schwartzenwhatever has violated his duty and ignored the moral and majority people of this state whom have a strong distaste for homosexuality. The majority of California voters have shown their distaste in the state-level ballot box on perhaps 3 separate occaisions, won, and made it clear. Apparently you can't comprehend how this evil is led by the devil. Have you ever heard of anything good from a christian morals point of view coming out of homosexuality? Have you never read St Paul's Epistles describing the evils of homosexuality and the consequences homosexuals will suffer for offending God? Homosexuality is a sindrome sponsored by Satan, plain and simple. Christianity and homosexuality are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Christianity stands for high morals, homosexuality for sin. Christianity counters homosexuality, its just that Satan is decieving so many homosexuals and their sympathizers and leading them to deceive heterosexuals as well that the two life-styles can co-exist. How many souls has Harvey Milk the pedophile and gay leader killed keeping them from Heaven? It is far worse to kill a soul than to kill their body. Our Lord even spoke in the Bible about the worse trajedy of killing one's soul than killing one's body.

Posted Wednesday, October 14, 2009 6:56 PM By Mark from PA
Jerry, I don't believe that the homosexual orientation is caused by the devil. People are born with their sexual orientation. It is part of nature. The devil has nothing to do with this. To say that homosexuality is a sindrome sponsored by Satan is bigotry plain and simple. I don't see how some people consider demonizing people they despise to be in any way Christian. But reading some of this gives me a clearer understanding of how Dan White could murder Harvey Milk.

Funny, just a couple of days after the California state goverment honors this undeserving dead man and then the state of California is hits with terrible storms with extensive damage, especially around the seat of the government, Sacramento, and the homosexual capital of the country San Francisco. What a coincidence or is it? Could it be the beginning of the wrath of our good God? To think these two cities were named after the Blessed Sacrament and Saint Frances. Its just not the legistlators and govenor that are going to be held accountable for spreading homosexual evils, the California voters will be held accountable for handing them their elected positions and having the power to do their dastardly deeds. Pray for forgiveness.

Posted Thursday, October 15, 2009 7:40 AM By Tom Amadeo
Mark from PA. You deny Satan's role in the genesis of homosexuality, and describe it as part of nature. By that are you saying that homosexuality is caused by God,the author and sovereign of nature? While homosexuality is indeed natural,so are incest, pedophilia, and larseny, and are moral evils. These,as are all evils, are under the domain of God as part of His "permissive will" but this does not mean God causes the evil.. Such a notion is repugnant to the nature of God Himself. And God amoung us,in the person of Jesus Christ has rejected all sin, but obviously permits its existence. If proclaiming God's positive will,as revealed in Scriptures, and through traditional doctrine constitute "bigotry, plain and simple,"so be it! The term "bigot" as used by you in the pejorative sense is improperly applied. The DEFINITION of "bigot"(look it up)is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. Useing the correct definition of the term,I am indeed a bigot. What choice do I have to be otherwise,if my opinions and or predudices are correct, and known to be correct, and in conformity with God's will.

Mark, Please stop trying to deceive us readers. There is no scientific clinical proof to what you say that people are born with homosexuality like its some orientation or disease. Please provide us untwisted, scientific proof to support your statement. There is however collateral evidence that homosexuality comes from the dark-side of spirituality. Do most modern psychiatrists, psychologists, or socialogists even "professionally" recognize in this agnostic world that man-kind even has a spiritual-side this day and age? From a spiritual collateral evidence standpoint, first, the RCC speaks clearly against homosexuality. Homosexuality has been around for centuries as the Holy Bible contains records of these sinful (offensive to God) acts. Have you ever read the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans (Roman Catholic Douay-Rheims Bible) Chapter 1: 24 to 32? Does it matter to you as a "cafeteria" catholic to defy God's Holy word? Is there love in defying God? No, it is a smack in His Holy Face! The RCC has taught us that heterosexuality, marriage between a man and a woman, and their pro-creation are a part of God's natural plan. Homosexuality on the other hand is unnatural according to the RCC as it does not pro-create. Two men copulating together or two women copulating together can not pro-create and fulfill God's holy plan of creating children. Please let us know when you find evidence that two same sex partners copulating together have procreated, OK? Second, God as our Father is not out to confuse us by creating heterosexuals and homosexuals as that would mean He is supports both the natural law and unnatural acts. Only good comes from our Heavenly Father; He creates nothing that is bad! Every human soul He creates is born with original sin; however that soul is good because God created him/her. People aren't born with homosexuality, it is a dark-side spiritual rooting that over time grabs one's soul as the devil deceives the victim through fallen peers. Sadly the victim likewise falls under the devil's evil powers, and then goes onto promote this wretched sin to others. Blessed Mother said that more souls go to hell for the sins of impurity! We

Can we call him the "Fern-inator" now?! The Governor has traded the children of California as a chip for several leads on a career in Hollywood next year once he leaves the governorship. A real kindergarten cop-out!

Tom in MN---who would quarrel with your observations. But I cannot pray for forgiveness, unless the "sine qua non" of repentance is met. Without repentance, and purpose of amendment, God's forgiveness is not possible---ever.

The title of this is article is misleading, if not incorrect. Schools are not REQUIRED to honor Harvey Milk. The legislation uses the words ENCOURAGED. It will be up to each school board/district. I understand why people may oppose, but do not assume that it will now be mandatory at EVERY single school in the state. If you are concerned, then talk to your individual school district to find out of this will be recognized. As a teacher, I think it is NOT FAIR to the children if you pull them out of school without even trying to find out whether or not your school will be recognizing this day.

PA repeats the same mantras about homosexuality, over and over and over. No matter what evidence of Church doctrine is presented to refute his political claims, he does not pay attention to the real proof. This only demonstrates one of those homosexual traits where they want to be beat up all the time. Look more closely at his posts, and find that he invites and teases just for the experience of having his political notions pounded once again into smithereens by Magisterial proof brought forth by various others.

Posted Saturday, October 17, 2009 8:26 PM By JLS
JD, even though "require" is not in the law, and "encouraged" is, there is more to the situation than the "stick" and that is the "carrot". Money is the carrot. Now there is being organized a giant stay at home day on the Milk day. This way the kids can stay home and not let the milkman in the kitchen. The schools will lose lots of money on Milk day because their daily ration of govt money depends on the number of kids there that day. If word gets around that even the schools who do not host a milk day will suffer a walkout, then those administrators can pressure the ones who "encourage" the homos to back off ... then everybody can enjoy their Twinkie for lunch.

schwarzenegger has ignored the standards of jurisprudence, the ca. supreme court and the electorate to pursue his narcissist agenda while promoting homosexuality as a viable life-style to the young and impressionable. the scientific community has assessed the genetic data and concluded that homosexuality is not an inherent trait. all of the euphemisms, gay, enlightened, all of the coerced legislation will not disguise this degenerative conduct. by exploiting their political influence aids infected homosexuals were not isolated from society which led to the disatrous aid's pandemic. millions of lives lost, multitudes of infected and orphaned children, devastated cultures and nations is their legacy. the cliche of inherent freedom to live as he or she sees fit can foster apocalyptic consequences.

Posted Monday, October 26, 2009 3:47 PM By Mark from PA
Joseph, you say that homosexuality comes from the dark side of spirituality. You say that the devil deceives the victims and sadly the victim falls under the devil's evil powers. So here you are demonizing gay people. Recently a gay man was beaten up in New York. He woke up in the hospital with the imprint of a shoe on his face. He didn't remember that as he was already unconscious when it happened. I wonder if the people who did this to him thought that they were fighting the devil. I realize that a lot of people don't care about stuff like this because they despise gay people. But I was never taught as you were taught, Joseph. I never learned these things from my church. Beating up people is physical violence but saying that a group of people are evil and under the spell of the devil is spiritual violence. Both forms are frightening to me.

Posted Monday, October 26, 2009 6:57 PM By Abeca Christian
Joseph stick to your guns, because you are right on! Since Mark from PA has never had a homosexual relationship, he does not understand what the victims go through, being sodomized and then indoctrinated into that lifestyle. He has no clue of the spiritual damage and the physical damage at all!

4000 people are killed daily in the wombs in the US; 4000 die daily from starvation in the world; 400 people are murdered annually in each big city in the US; countless thousands are butchered in third world countries from civil wars; 1000 die each week in the US from auto wrecks, etc and here we find the complaint of one gay individual dying at the hands of killers in one city over the past year or so. But since gay people are worth so much more than anyone else, then this single incident is even more horrible than the Crucifixion. Had I only known.

When I was in school I was taught that we were all brothers and sisters in Christ. I was taught that when we received the Eucharist we became one with Christ and with each other. I was taught we were to love our neighbors as ourselves. I was never taught that some groups of people were excluded from "love your neighbor." We are called to be witnesses of Jesus Christ.

Posted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 9:52 AM By Abeca Christian
Mark from PA yes we are love our neighbors not an ideology of an agenda! The homosexual agenda is not a race, you have either male and female, as neighbors, not in between.

This may be upsetting to you, JLS, but that guy didn't die. He was just beating senseless. I was just using one example. If you have been paying attention, you would know that I am pro-life and have also taken part in protests against the 4000 unborn children murdered daily. I never said here that gay people are worth more than anyone else, just that they are not worth less than anyone else.

Posted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 10:23 AM By Mark from PA
Abeca Christian, I may know more than you think. And nowhere do I condone people damaging others. I knew well a man who caused spiritual and physical damage and this is painful for me to think about. Mark F can back me up about this as he knows what I am speaking of.

The teaching that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ is either true or false depending on how it is used. Potentially we are indeed all bros and siss in Christ, but potential is not going to be fulfilled according to Jesus. Also note that we are taught by Jesus in the Gospel and by His apostles in their Letters that anti-christs and those who have sinned against the Holy Ghost are among us, tares among the grain. One has to use common sense to discern between potential and actual. Jesus also calls us to "discern the spirits" ... Why? Because believing that they are all good is folly unto damnation.

Posted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 3:27 PM By Mark from PA
Abeca Christian, gay people are male or female. A gay man is a male, not a female. However, not all people are XX females or XY males. There are some people who are in between. And these people are our neighbors too and also deserve our respect and love. These people are also part of God's creation.

I think this is wonderful! Harvey Milk was a civil rights leader. I think he is a man who deserves this recognition and that public school students could learn a lot about courage and tolerance by studying his life. I am not gay, but I do believe in human rights. And I do not think that you have to have a discussion about sex to talk about human rights for homosexuals. I have a 13 year old daughter and I told her all about Harvey Milk. It is good for children to learn respect for others.
