“People are rising up”
Referendum, constitutional amendment or abandoning the public schools? Opponents of SB-777 ponder what to do next
Many California parents are seeking some way to block implementation of the provisions of SB-777, recently signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. They say the new statute would impose a radical sexual agenda on California’s public schoolchildren.
The law bans school texts and activities that would exhibit any bias against homosexuality, bisexuality, transsexuality, and cross-dressing, according to Meredith Turney, legislative liaison for the Capitol Resource Institute, a pro-family lobbying organization based in Sacramento.
“Under this latest advance toward a Brave New World of polymorphous perversion, California textbooks will no longer be able to use words like 'mother and father' and 'husband and wife,' because they suggest that heterosexuality is the norm,” said Alan Carlson of the World Congress of Families. “Unbelievably, the law even allows students to use the restrooms and locker rooms of the opposite sex if they identify with that gender,” Carlson told Christian Newswire.
But what can concerned parents do?
Capitol Resource Institute is seeking to block SB-777 with a referendum, which would allow voters to overturn the law. But qualifying a referendum for the ballot is not an easy task: it entails raising more than $500,000 and gathering 433,971 voter signatures in the next 90 days.
If the referendum were successfully placed on the ballot, SB-777 would not go into effect as scheduled on January 1, 2008. Instead, it would be up to the voters to decide the fate of the law in the June elections.
Assembly members Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) and Joel Anderson (R-San Diego) have already volunteered to serve as co-chairs of the referendum campaign. CRI’s Karen England told California Catholic Daily in a telephone interview she was confident a referendum is feasible. “People are rising up to stop [SB 777],” she said. “The referendum is absolutely doable.”
But even if the referendum is “doable,” Randy Thomasson of the Sacramento-based Campaign for Children and Families, another pro-family lobbying group, says he doesn’t think it goes far enough. “While the voters could reject and stop SB-777, a successful ballot referendum is a one-time deal,” Thomasson told WorldNetDaily. “Despite good intentions, a referendum – 'the power of the electors to approve or reject statutes' – simply does not prohibit the California Legislature from passing the same school sexual indoctrination bill next year, the year after, or whenever."
Thomasson said only a constitutional amendment -- a far more expensive and labor-intensive project -- could “wipe out SB-777 and prevent it from coming back.”
Ray Moore of Exodus Mandate, a nationwide group that promotes Christian private education and home schooling, has another solution: He says it’s time for Christians to abandon the public schools altogether. “This really is a call to conservative and Christian pro-family groups to give up this absurd idea of public school reform,” he observed on the web site exodusmandate.org. “It can't be done. The longer they talk about saving public schools, the longer they prolong this agony.”

I suggest the latter.

I sincerely hope it's not true that where America leads the world follows because we're not looking forward to this form of lunacy being inflicted upon our children here in Australia. Can't somebody stop these people?

It's true that a successful referendum won't stop our liberal legislature from bringing back this perverse bill. I checked the law on initiatives and it says a referendum and a statutory initiative require the same number of signatures to qualify for the ballot. So why not at least do a statutory initiative prohibiting legislators from ever again passing a homo-bi-transexual brainwashing bill? Instead of 90 days to collect signatures, as in a referendum, you get 150 days with a statutory initiative. So a statutory initiative is stronger and easier to do. It seems the folks who a pushing for a referendum are rushing, not thinking. I like the idea of a constitutional amendment which stops the judges from ordering "equal time" for deviant lifestyles down the road.

You get what you ask for when you live in a place that doesn't know the difference between "sex" and "gender". Our society is so busy masking the truth with words that are inofensive and out of definition that any "truth" becomes acceptable and "THE TRUTH" doesn't have anything but an agressive, unpleasant, rubs-me-the-wrong-way impact. The only solution is to gop back to the truth, but then that would be too painful, wouldn't it?

Ray Moore is right on. If you don't want your kids indoctrinated in what the public schools teach your only hope is to separate them from that environment. It will require sacrifice on your part. You will probably also have to leave California as they do not consider parents the first educators of their children. There is a lot of land available, property taxes are very low, and homeschooling is protected in the state constitution here in Oklahoma. I would love to have more Catholics homeschooling out here. I pray that those subjected to this type of evil can prevail.

The DNC platform is written to support these groups, jerks like us listen to their crap about the war, social security, medical care, in the background is their demonic driven agenda supporting all of the evil being fostered on our Children and the Country as a whole, Soros controls the purse strings, they simply lie their ways into office and we get laws such as Arnies the hollywood sleazes latest blow to Moral and Family values. WE ARE THE PROBLEM,WE WILL ANSWER FOR OUR VOTES WHEN WE CONTINUE TO PUT THESE PERVERTED POLITICIANS INTO ELECTED OFFICES. More and more parents are continueing to homeschool. Hopefully we can keep homeschooling and schools that are immortal and anti family values can start to close down and the government will get the picture that we don't want this trash being taught in schools and not to keep wasting our tax money on trash.

The statutory initiative sounds like it is the way to go. We get 150 days to get the signatures. You are absolutely correct it is stronger and easier. So, who do we contact to get started.?

Maria C, Homeschooling will not be a haven for too long. When the sodomite government sees public school attendance falling, they are going to send jack booted thugs into peoples homes to forcibly remove their children and drag them into government run public schools where they will be forced to accept sodomy as normal and natural. It has happened in Germany not too long ago under a law that goes all the back to Adolf Hitler. If efforts to fight these unjust laws fail, it is best for the just to evacuate that sodomite state so that the path may be cleared for the sign of Sodom and Gomorrah to be seen in the sight of all the nations.

HSLDA: Action Still Needed to Stop
Federal 'Employment Non Discrimination Act'
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,
Calls are still urgently needed to your U.S. Representative to opposeH.R. 3685, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. At the committee
markup yesterday, the House Committee on Education and Labor favorably
reported the bill to the full House of Representatives for a vote as
early as Wednesday, October 24. The committee vote was 27 to 21 in
favor of the bill. Although several amendments were introduced during
the markup to protect religious freedom of employers and employees,
all of the amendments were defeated.
ENDA would prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of "actual
or perceived sexual orientation." Every business or organization with
more than 15 employees would be barred by federal law from refusing to
hire a person because of the person's sexual orientation. Although
the bill exempts "religious organizations," this exemption would
likely result in expensive, time-consuming lawsuits to determine if
the employer is a "religious organization." Organizations such as
HSLDA and religiously based homeschool organizations or co-ops with 15
or more employees could face such lawsuits.
ACTION REQUESTED
We urge you to call your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to
oppose H.R. 3685, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, when it comes
up for a vote next week. It is not necessary to identify yourself as
a homeschooler. Your message can be as simple as, "Please oppose H.R.
3685, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Congress should not tell
private employers whom to hire or make sexual orientation a protected
class."
You can reach your U.S. Representative by calling the Capitol
Switchboard at 202-224-3121, or by using our Legislative Toolbox at

I don't suppose the Leftist Socialist Secularists in California see any relation to their evil deeds and the fires that are turning Southern California into a "hell on Earth". Keep up with your gay/bisexual/transgender agenda and the chastisements will keep coming as well. Don't believe it..that's ok, you'll believe it when the fires come to your neighborhood.

There are constitutional guarantees which do not seem to appear in these threads ... let me whisper one ... shhh: Second Amendment. The Europeans do not have that provision, nor the Canadians, nor the Aussies. But the Latin American nations whether written or de facto have such guarantees, and it still exists in the USA on paper. Oh, and it exists in the middle east and on the African continent. I'm not too sure how it works in the far East, or India. Interesting to consider that this nation would have no such voting rights had military weapons not been popular among the civilians of what became the 13 colonies in 1776. And as far as divine intervention such as fires rimming southern California ... man, Sr Laurel and her pals kicked up the sand with their sandals, and the next day the dust storms were so thick that I couldn't see the painted lines on the road even when stopped. That something else, or what?! ... refer to the thread on Sr Laurel for further information in the archives.

Yes, it may be true that the West has become the "great Satan", but that does not exhonorate Islam. Islam, China, India, the secular West, Marxist peoples ... these are demonic and are vying for the lead.

Someone once said "For evil to triumph, good men must do nothing." The good people of this once great country have done nothing for so long I'm afraid its too late to start now. At one time, we in the Catholic Church could count on our priests and Bishops to lead us in battles with authorities over moral issues. Today they ARE the moral issue. The idea of abandoning public education for a christian one is probably the best idea, If all parents are willing to take a stand and fight for it.Try and get your church leaders to lead, if you can.

"And in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man shall be revealed." Luke 17: 29 - 30.
People don't be too hard on all Muslims. A Muslim lady in my city in California just told me how she is persecuted by others when she tells people that so-called "same-sex marriage" and other disease-ridden sexual activities are wrong. Some of them (Muslims) may get to heaven before some so-called Christians. I do not believe this lady is a radical, even though her theology is not perfect. Remember the Lord Jesus Christ said that not all those who called him Lord would get to heaven, but those who both believed and did what he asked. Let that be a lesson to us all.

Islam conquered Christian lands by military force beginning with Mohammud in the 7th Century AD. Many of the conquered Christians may have just given in, and paid lip service to Islam. But over the centuries Islam disciplined its subjects by means of fear. There is a lot of leeway in Islam for many "unofficial" beliefs; if those Islam govts do not keep a lid on their peoples, then it is likely that Christianity would rise once again from the suppression. So, my point is that maybe many Muslims, if not under threat of death, would turn to Christianity.

John L..interesting points about Muslims. The Great Monarch as prophesied by so many great Catholic Saints, is to be the one who will cause the great conversions of the Muslims and pagans. St Anne Catherine Emmerich wrote much about him. It's worth studying if you're interested.

Fellow Christians, I was not trying to say that all those affected by the fires in Southern California deserved what happened. I was just trying to express that none of us know when our time will come--Christ's judgment at our death or at the Second Coming-- so we had better be prepared.
And to those who posted after me, yes we hope for the conversion of the Muslims. Many of them are decent people, as those of other religions. Others are radical, as were the Muslims who took Northern Africa by sheer force. So we had better try, as best we can, to judge fairly.

As I have written in the past, if in any way my graphic posters caused physical, psychological and emotional problems to children, I would not hesitate to take them down forever! I would like to reiterate again that, in my 18 years of pro-life service, 99 percent of the people who are against my graphic posters are pro-choice or have had an abortion in the past. These people hate to see, with their eyes, the cruel and violent results of an abortion, which they know in their hearts, is cold blooded legalized murder. So, they purposely use the children as an excuse to go against my graphic posters. Also, I wish these people who are adamantly against my graphic posters would have, at least, a little concern and compassion of the victims of abortion that are on my postures. I do realize that these people are carrying hatred, bitterness, and anger which they will not let go of and are in a deep state of denial and in need of our prayers. I really wish these people would, somehow, re-channel their energies to crusade against pornography, which is bringing our nation down to its knees. Now, the fruits of pornography are fornications, premarital sex, unwanted pregnancies, divorce, child abuse, child molestation, child prostitution, child porn, abortion, homosexuality, alcohol and drug addiction and transmitted diseases. Lastly, let us work together to get our country back to God’s laws. If we do this and we are successful, the pre-born babies would not need our loving service and there would be no need of graphic postures anymore.

This will heat up and already is, such as these parents Christmas caroling last week, while wearing "No Gay Schools" t-shirts in Sacramento to protest SB 777.

It's truly amazing that anyone would want to perpetuate hatred in the name of God or patriotism. It's very sad to see so much bigotry and rampant ignorance instilled in America's children.Whatever happened to "the Land of the free" and "the pursuit of happiness"?It truly is a shame that so many people keep building structures of deceit that separate humanity instead of exalting the beauty and unity of our common existence. Please concentrate on making yourself a more loving person and stop breeding hate.

Tokudka Lollobrigida, many people from other countries do not know what our founding fathers meant by freedom. They come over here thinking it means they can do anything they want. Freedom, as the founding fathers meant it, does not mean licentiousness. It meant as the Bible says, the freedom to do that which is right and good and holy. The quotation on our Liberty Bell is from the Bible, the Old Testament, the Jewish Torah. It meant liberty (freedom) in that sense. Many in our country have exchanged freedom for licentiousness. That is not freedom in the sense that our founding fathers meant it; that is bondage to sin. I know. I am descended on one side, perhaps both, from some of the founding fathers in the thirteen original colonies. They would have been horrified by some of the things going on now in the name of freedom. And the "pursuit of happiness'' did not mean to them that "anything goes" or immoral behavior run amok. That is what is happening in my state now. God help us to go back to what the founding fathers really meant by freedom.
|

A correction: I am definitely descended on my maternal grandmother's side from some of the original founders of the thirteen colonies, and perhaps also on my maternal grandfather's side.
