BREAKING NEWS

Governor succumbs to Planned Parenthood pressure, signs SB-94

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed SB-94, a special bill pushed through the legislature by Planned Parenthood to increase Medi-Cal rates for “family planning services,” the governor’s press office announced early this afternoon.

The governor’s decision to sign the measure came just a day before the legal deadline for signing or vetoing bills on his desk. Planned Parenthood affiliates across California had launched a massive PR campaign in an effort to persuade Schwarzenegger to sign the bill, which will result in the state spending another $3.2 million a year on “family planning services” -- potentially tens of millions of dollars over the next several years.

Even though Planned Parenthood’s California affiliates typically end each fiscal year with budget surpluses in the millions, SB-94, sponsored by Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Los Angeles, will now add additional millions to their coffers.

Every Republican in the legislature, with the exception of Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Grass Valley, voted against SB-94. A request to the senator’s communications director for the senator’s rationale for supporting the measure went unanswered.

In a Sept. 14 letter to the governor, Senate Republican Leader Dick Ackerman wrote, “it is unclear why rates for family planning services should be singled out for an increase from among the entire universe of services which Medi-Cal covers, especially when the increase was proposed at the eleventh hour of the legislative session. This proposed rate augmentation is more appropriately considered during the regular budget process.”

The governor was apparently not persuaded by the opposition of his Republican colleagues in the legislature.

Planned Parenthood lost an earlier legislative battle that would have increased Medi-Cal rates across the board at an estimated annual cost of $24 million.

This story is a news bulletin only. Next week, California Catholic Daily will publish a more complete story covering various legislation of interest to our readers, including same-sex marriage and several bills aimed at advancing the homosexual agenda.

I wonder if the California Conference of Bishops made any effort to get the Governor to veto SB 94. Probably not. Their website states their position on this bill was "no", but their lack of action showed their disinterest. They were more tuned into immigration reform, and other social issues. In general, the Bishops and the staff who run their political lives, are not particularly interested in the American Holocaust of abortion.

We individual Catholics must pray in reparation because we have no shepherds in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Pray God will give us heroic, holy priests and bishops!

What is going on??!!! That an official leader would allow these young children to be exposed to this???!!! Parents have had the assurance that when their children go to school they will learn the fundamentals of reading, writing and arithmetic – not introduced to alternative sexual lifestyles at such a young age. According to the SB777 bill the terms 'mom and dad' or 'husband and wife' could promote discrimination against homosexuals if a same-sex couple is not also featured. Well, isn't this discriminating against Americans whose beliefs are not in one accord with this and which violates their moral boundaries??!! God has been and is continuing to be removed from all areas in a country that was based on Christian principles. Is it any wonder why there is so much chaos, violence, murder, etc., etc, etc.???!!! I love this country and it pains me to see what is going on. May God have mercy on us!!!!!

Looks like Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger sold his soul to a God-hating, baby-killing, contra-human life, anti-American, slippery slope agenda. We get what we [don't] pray for!!!

My prayer is that people of faith assemble together in a united effort to save our children. Indoctrination in the public schools of the homosexual lifestyle and baby killing training needs to stop. People of faith need to tell the government, hands off our kids. God's work is not just limited to the church.

Marcus, so were the citizens of Sodom, who briefly yet poignantly experienced heartburn.
