If you thought UNICEF was a good thing, think again
UN Children’s fund criticized for sponsoring children’s television program promoting promiscuity, prostitution and homosexuality
San Salvador, El Salvador (CNA) -- Salvadoran columnist Julia Regina de Cardenal has denounced UNICEF for sponsoring a television program that promotes unethical behavior and promiscuity to children.
“Why are international organizations obsessed with investing such sums of money to pervert our children?” she asked in a column for the Salvadoran daily, Hoy. As an example, Cardenal pointed to the money spent on advertising during a television program that “promotes promiscuity, prostitution as a way of earning a living for young women, homosexuality and all forms of sexual disorder.”
“The grim message to teens is that sex is a game that must be experienced in the search for pleasure, without any concern for the consequences of physical, psychological, mental, spiritual, social and cultural health,” she warned.
El Salvador is going through “a frightening and unbearable crisis of violence, terrorism and brutality never before seen,” Cardenal continued. For this reason it is crazy and unacceptable that UNICEF -- which claims to protect children -- is sponsoring a program that is so damaging to society, the family and the dignity of the person.”
UNICEF is “not looking at the true needs of Salvadoran children” in the areas of heath, nutrition, security and education, she continued, noting that foundations that promote such programs receive no answer when they request financial assistance. “Is there only money available to promote unethical behavior? This is the most destructive thing they can do,” she said.
She also criticized authorities for allowing “this kind of perversion on children’s television,” and encouraged parents to call or write to express their dissatisfaction with the program.

The more sick, perverted and confused a society is the easier it is for a tyrant to take control. It also makes it easier for perverts to molest the children.

UNICEF is unjustly admired in this country. It does as much deep harm as it does superficial good. In fact, the whole United Nations and everyone I've known associated with it are corrupt. In New York as a young, naive California transplant, I lived next door to a contingency from the United Nations and met a number of people at some of their parties, which took place almost every evening of the year, from UNICEF. I was shocked to learn how they thought and how they lived, but as with drivers passing an accident, I could not stop gaping for the two years I lived there. Those people occupy the part of my memory that if flooded with negative emotions whenever I even hear the words United Nations or UNICEF. I could tell you stories about leaders in foreign governments that would curl your toes, and they all get away with unspeakable crimes due to diplomatic immunity. Narcissism is their religion, and crime is their vehicle of worship. Watching the UN and UNICEF operate over the years has only reinforced the bad opinions I had of them back in the day, when I was a fashionable young ornament at their parties. I used them too, to study their world as one would study a college subject, and I was and remain appalled.

I grew up in the day of the campaign for children entitled:
Trick or Treat for UNICEF.
Who is being tricked by UNICEF now? We are! Do not support this wicked organization. Starve their funds! Pray for the UN and UNICEF because they have done much harm to the world and have the potential to do even more harm to our children, our families, our lives. I'd like to see an international organization with deep Christian values...oh, yes, it is called the Roman Catholic Church. Thank God for Jesus, His disciples, and his followers throughout the world.

Thats some fine reporting Seven paragraphs devoted to denouncing a television program and not one mention of the name of that program. It ends with a call to action to write letters complaining about the program. What kind of letter should I write? 'There is a program I want taken off the air, but I don't know what its called.'
As an aside, I spent 8 hours last weekend helping the local parish distribute rice to families in need here in El Salvador. Where did the the parish get the rice? You guessed it, UNICEF.

John Martin, this article came from CNA. If you are so wanting to write a letter, why not look up the original article in the paper mentioned, "Hoy", as you say you are in El Salvador. Unicef is like other so called good organizations that feeds the body a bit but destroys people's morals.

I have known that UNICEF is bad for years and years. The pro-lifers came out against it a long time ago. It just proves that one should not give to every so-called charity without actually knowing where one's money is going.

Also, when you purchase merchandise that has labels advertising that so much of the purchase price goes for charity, check to see what kind of charity it is funding.

I have friends working for various "do good" organizations/foundations who are making HUGE amounts of money!!! These groups perhaps did "good things" many years ago, but now they are harbors for the promotion of liberal immorality and greed!

John Martin, while the unicef rice poured through your hands to the poor, the beef had already stopped on the plates of the executives.

Could I perhaps issue a call for everyone to ask exactly WHAT was so wrong in this TV show? This article makes an allegation without any substantiation. I have a lot of doubts too about the UN, but I still have no reason that I know of to spew venom over this particular TV show.

The TV program sponsored by UNICEF is named "Sexto Sentido" (Sixth Sense) and it is broadcast in Canal 33 every Sunday at 3:00pm!!! This TV program promotes promiscuity, prostitution and homosexuality.

Rose-Again, a poorly written article. I would pick up a copy of "Hoy", if there was one. I assume they mean " El diario del hoy". I have never heard it called hoy sense I have been in El Salvador. "El diario" I've heard for short, but not "Hoy". Maybe its one of the afternoon rags that do crime, sports and bikini models, but we only get the morning papers here. What date was it printed? That would be nice to know. My original point being its a poorly written article still stands. It wouldn't pass muster for my HS paper 20 year ago. There are lots of things I can accept on faith. Not the things in the article though. If its a clarion call, it falls short. With the rise of the evangelicals here, Catholics have to step up our communication skills.
Vaya con Dios. The editor replies: First, to use the full name of the newspaper -- El Diario de Hoy -- would have been incorrect in this instance since the story says, "Salvadoran daily, Hoy." To include the full name would be the equivalent of saying, "The Salvadoran daily "the daily Hoy." CNA, the news agency responsible for this article, is based in Peru and I can assure you they know Spanish well. And, though it is not normally our policy, to satisfy your curiosity, here is a link to the story referenced in the article: http://www.elsalvador.com/mwedh/nota/nota_opinion.asp?idCat=6350&idArt=4989455

Gotta love California Catholic Daily. Makes you proud to be a Catholic, or I should say, gives you one more reason. I'm not sure a California Fundamentalist Daily would be on top of things quite as well, though one would hope so. Thanks for all you do to make this world a better place than you found it, CCD. Love ya! Mean it! Let's do lunch! (Kisses in the air)
