“Stop funding the abortion industry in California!”

Pro-life group launches petition drive urging end to state spending on abortion

The California Pro-Life Council has begun circulating a petition addressed to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger calling for an end to state funding of abortions as one means of reducing California’s estimated $24 billion budget deficit.

“Our state is bankrupt and we are still funding the Death industry!” writes Pro-Life Council executive director Brian Johnston on the California ProLife Blog. “Human beings are more important than the machinery of Death! Help us stop the Death machinery! Tell your friends to speak up now! This Terminator has been a tool of Death!”

The California Pro-Life Council is the state affiliate of the non-profit, non-partisan National Right to Life Committee.

According to LifeNews.com, California spends more than $33 million each year to pay for abortions -- even though Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider, brought in $1 billion in revenue last year.

“California state government is the state’s largest single funder of the abortion industry,” continued Johnston. “Do you know that when Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected he said he was NOT an extremist on abortion -- that he would support parental notice and oppose partial-birth abortion? But deceitfully, throughout his governorship he has in fact stood strong with the abortion lobby. He has never opposed them! In fact he went so far as to hire one of the most radical pro-abortion activists in the state to actually be his Chief of Staff! (Susan Kennedy headed up Cal Abortion Rights Action League!).

“We urge you to send Arnie a message NOW loud and clear -- stop the multi-million dollar funding of the abortion industry in California! Make sure your legislators know as well…”

"But deceitfully, throughout his governorship he has in fact stood strong with the abortion lobby." His parish is St. Monica's in Santa Monica? Besides this petition, perhaps one should be sent to his pastor, asking him to do his duty and explain the danger Arnold's soul is in.

Too bad we're only seeing this from a non-Catholic group (that doesn't support the Church's ancient, ordinary teaching on the inviolability of the transmission of human life in each act of marriage). The California Catholic Conference fails to seize this key moment, hesitates to strike while the iron is hot; the Bishops' site is pushing Health Food For Poor People, but fails to show plans for opposing abortion. (California Catholic Conference, top menu, Take Action, Legislative Priorities, Major & Significant Legislation, search for "Abortion", no result.)

By not signing you may be directly responsible for a 'termination' = a murder sanctioned and promoted by the US government. It costs nothing to sign and promote, but could save you 'an eternity'.

Contrary to Brian Johnston's claims, the governor has in fact supported parental notification. For example, on June 29, 2008, on Meet the Press, the governor publicly said, "I support [Proposition 4]. I think there should be a notification of the parents, and I was always for that... I believe in that 100 percent." But the will of the people struck it down. In regard to partial birth abortion, the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act was enacted by Congress in November 2003, one month after Arnold became governor. And in 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it's constitutional.

Good idea, Brian. Let's not only sign a petition to stop abortion funding, let's get our Catholic bishops to stop supporting abortion promoting legislators from using our Catholic churches to promote universal health care which has a large abortion/family planning component. Let's have a petition directed at the California Catholic Conference.

I fully agree with Mr. Johnson, the States should not be allowed to get and give our tax money to end human lives. Maybe it is time that ALL we citizens do not vote for ANY poitician who gives our money for murder. Grammarose Cobbett

Chanda Leir, the Governor's words are cheap; look at what he does, and that is what he believes. He is pro-abortion, pro-homosexualizing society, and pro-snubbing the Church.

Good idea, Brian, where were you when Wynette Sills was mounting her effort to do exactly the same thing? Better late than never but the time is now to de-fund the abortion industry which kills our unborn children in this state and harms women emotionally, psychologically, and without passage of parental notification contributes to statutory criminal rapes.

Is it any wonder that California is suffering? With hypocrits and creeps running the state government, we deserve the consequences. Pray for our state government, and do your part in the next election to oust the hpocrits and creeps.

Each and every unborn child is the perfect creation of God, cherished from all eternity. Each has an eternal soul and deserves the chance to live and serve God and their fellow man. We cannot cooperate with this evil. To remain silent about abortion or to vote for pro choice politicians is to cooperate with the killing of babies.

This is EXACTLY WHY the church needs to enforce the directive to DENY communion to pro-abortion politicians! Arnie is disingenuous; just like most of Hollywood! He knows that his career would be over if he came out against abortion. He needs to decide whether he is Catholic or NOT! It is time to END the cowardice! The church leadership needs to decide to get some backbone and defend the church and Her teachings! Initially, the USCCB decided to excommunicate pro-abortion politicians! They did not have the guts to follow through! Jesus did not back down when evil was involved! He was not a wimp! He tore into the jerks at the temple! It is time for REAL Catholics to press the USCCB to (1) obligate all priests to initiate excommunication of all pro-abortion politicians (deny communion, too), (2) demand that all Catholic Universities follow ALL directives, and (3) remove all priests that fail to follow this directive. Remember, "If you are luke warm, I will vomit you out of my mouth"...You are either with God or against Him! It is past time for the leaders of the church to stand up and defend God's sacred ministry! They have been cold recently! It must MEAN something to be a Catholic!

Why, why, why do you give $33 million in state funds yearly to pay for CA abortions, even though Planned Parenthood brought in $1 billion in revenue last year? Are you crazy or just evil?

Dismembering a partly born child and crushing its skull Federal appeals court upholds Virginia’s ban on partial-birth abortions Richmond, Va., Jun 26, 2009 (CNA) -- The Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a 6-5 decision on Wednesday, June 24, upheld Virginia’s partial-birth abortion ban. In his concurring opinion, one judge wrote that the law protects the “weakest” and “most helpless,” and condemned the use of the constitution to justify “dismembering” a partly born child and “crushing” its skull. All six judges who upheld the law were appointed by Republican presidents, while the five dissenters were Democratic appointees. You asked why the Vatican declared the democrat as the party of death? Do you think that some conscientious democrat will support abortion if they were not lied to? Abortion laws are a result of judicial activism, not the will of the people. 3. According to anti-slavery laws in America, a person cannot be treated as property. What's more, it is a seriously flawed notion that someone can be human but not a person. This notion was used most infamously by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1857 to justify slavery. As to the unborn, science and medicine confirm they are human. They therefore should not be treated as property.
