SF Archdiocesan Partner Funds “Emergency Contraception”

Local Organizing Project Hopes to Honor Nancy Pelosi

On October 30, every parish in the United States was sent a letter by the US Catholic Bishops regarding the healthcare passed last Saturday by Congress. The letter requested that priests and parishioners tell their representatives that unless the bill removed funding for abortion, the bill must be opposed.

But that clear moral distinction is not being applied within Catholic institutions. On September 3, California Catholic Daily reported on the infiltration of the Church by the “community organizing” group PICO and its affiliates. One PICO affiliate mentioned was the San Francisco Organizing Project. At that time we noted “22 Catholic churches are listed on the website of the San Francisco Organizing Project, and the archdiocese is listed as ‘a partner.’”

In September, the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry revealed that a number of groups being funded by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development had acted in direct opposition to Church teaching -- and thus to the campaign’s own funding guidelines. The Bellarmine report caused the campaign to pull funding from some of these groups. Last week Bellarmine issued a new report. The new report revealed that one group still being funded by the campaign, and which shouldn’t be, is the San Francisco Organizing Project: “This PICO affiliated grantee has been funded by the [campaign] for at least five years for a variety of projects. However, they have given major support to health clinics which provide family planning and emergency contraception services to both adults and minors.”

The report continued: “The San Francisco Organizing Project lists several major accomplishments in the health care field including ‘Won $200,000 for Mission Neighborhood Health Center and Excelsior Clinic for Women and Children. Saved Excelsior Clinic and the public pharmacy at SF General Hospital.’”

The Mission Neighborhood Health Center’s webpage states: “Our Teen Clinic offers Sensitive Services that are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL for all young people of all genders from ages 12 to 21. Services offered cover sexual and reproductive health…” The services then listed include “emergency contraception” (which can be early-term abortion) and “general counseling and referrals.” What kind of referrals? The Mission Neighborhood Health Center provides a series of links to “reliable health information.” The very first link provided is to the “Center for Young Women’s Health,” whose “contraception” page directs young women to Planned Parenthood.

Other links provided by the Mission Neighborhood Health Center include coolnurse.com (which hosts the sponsored link “Buy Condoms Online“), amplifyyourvoice.org (“’Law and Order’ episode about Dr. George Tiller insults his legacy“), and scarleteen.com (“Birth Control Bingo” and “The Bees and the Bees…a Homosexuality Primer for You“). The Mission Neighborhood Health Center informs readers “If you are a young person over the age of 12, you can register for Teen Clinic services on your own, without the consent of an adult.”

The organizing project webpage also includes an announcement for their 2010 Soul of the City fundraiser. The announcement expresses the hope that the fundraiser will be held on February 21, but cautions “this date may change as we are working with Speaker Pelosi’s office to ensure her presence…” This past Saturday, Speaker Pelosi voted to include funding for abortion in the recently passed Congressional Healthcare bill--in direct opposition to the clear directive of the bishops. The organizing project slideshow features pictures of openly homosexual San Francisco Supervisors Tom Ammiano and Bevan Dufty, both of whom voted for Resolution 168-06, which condemned the Catholic Church as hateful and discriminatory.

Well, there goes my assumption that even if some bishops do not do well as religious leaders, at least they are good administrators ... but, alas, even their ability to administrate does not hold up very well. What, then, good are these happy-as-a-clam faced bishops?

RLS, you used the right (if understated) term: "happy-as-a-clam bishops". I could add "sappy smile" bishops as an appropriate term also. How many young souls are being destroyed in just the San Francisco area alone by the hierarchy and clergy's blatant failure to ensure that the teachings of the Catholic Church are being promulgated in their jurisdiction? Do they care? Will they care at their Particular, and the General, Judgment? "Woe to them....."

This has to stop!

Our Bishops continually embarrass us with their "do nots" and come to find out they do not even follow them . . one of these days we will havespiritual shepherds again as Bishops and not politicians ..in time, in time.

IS IT POSSIBLE that mealy-mouthed bishops will follow the truly remarkable courage of Bishop Thomas Tobin of Rhode Island? Bishop Tobin published a letter of admonishment to Patrick Kennedy who seems to to have the same "courage" as Ted in calling himself a Catholic. We have a leader and available graces to invoke the Holy Spirit for followers.

It's amazing the parallels between bishops and politicians: Pass laws that don't apply to themselves. What did St John Chrysostom say about the road to hell?

"Emergency contraception" IS abortion, every time.

In that "emergency contraception" is abortion, that is the sad reason it is called emergency ... and sadder is that not enough people come to the rescue. It's like the same old "good Samaritan" with no helpers and having to tend to always escalating numbers of victims.

Woody G.---Oddly,Bishop Tobin admonished Patrick Kennedy in Providence for supporting the very positions held by his father,Teddy, who was given a funeral befitting a Pope --in the terratory of Sean O'Malley, the Cardinal-Archbishop of Boston, some 40 miles away. What a mixed message for Catholics ! Frankly,I suspect Bishop Tobin will get the worst of it within the hierarchy for his defence of Catholic doctrine. You watch what happens to Tobin! Moved?Sent to Rome where he can't make waves?

Follow the money! Why do our leaders continue to do stupid things with the contributions of devout Catholics? After the first mistakes, you'd THINK that they had the sense to really evaluate ANY group that they were "associated' with either financially or otherwise! Are they really this inept? Our Lord deserves better! It makes Christ's church look like either hypocrites or fools...or both! It is PAST time for every parish to evaluate every "partner" for potential embarrassment!

QUIT WITH THE DOUBLE TALK! This IS abortion! (Emergency means that she is already pregnant, and they disingenuously want to play games with the truth...that it is abortion.) Let's see... Pelosi thumbs her nose at God and His church...again....and what do the bishops do? NOTHING! Will she get communion this Sunday? When will the cowardice end? God is NOT a coward! ALL of the Pseudo-Catholic politicians MUST be exposed for what they truly are...HERETICS!
