One way to get around the ban on same-sex marriage

California “lesbian couple” raises eyebrows even among their own when one of them decides to undergo sex-change surgery

A Hayward couple, Diane and Jacob Anderson-Minshall, are queer even in the LGBT “community.” Besides being co-authors of a lesbian murder thriller, Blind Curves, published by the lesbian-themed publisher Bold Strokes Books, their own relationship is not easily defined. Is it lesbian heterosexualism or heterosexual lesbianism?

For, Jacob, once a man trapped in a woman’s body, is now, presumably a woman transformed into a man. But for many years Jacob was Susannah, and she and Diane met 17 years ago at a gay pride parade in Boise, Idaho. Up until about 13 years, they were a lesbian couple; but four years ago, Susannah underwent the treatments and surgeries to maker her a “he.” Now, said the May 1 Oakland Tribune, “the two share their lives in Hayward as transgender man and lesbian wife.”

When she dealt with transactions in the past, Diane said she "would say Susannah was my wife, and they'd tell me she would have to contact them." But “now I say Jacob is my husband and it's immediately accepted."

Jacob, it seems, never was really a lesbian, for when he (she?) was a little girl, she thought she was a little boy. “Eventually, he channeled the confusion into becoming a lesbian,” said the Tribune. But after the “transgender” process, Jacob does not call himself a “straight” man but a “transgender” man who feels at home in the LGBT community.

Diane Anderson-Minshall, who edits the lesbian Curve magazine, said she was once “an old-school lesbian” who opposed women transgendering to men. An August 20, 2006 New York Times article detailed how many lesbians consider transgendering as treason to lesbianism. It is “going over the other side.” The lesbian Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival even bans transgendered men and women from attending.

Transgendering has broken up lesbian relationships. When Sharon Caya of San Francisco became Shane, her lesbian lover, Natasha, couldn’t take it. “I am a lesbian because I am attracted to women, and not to men," she told the Times. When Natasha became pregnant with donor sperm, Sharon decided she wanted to be her/himself. “I wanted the baby to know me as I truly am,” Sharon, now Shane, said. But Natasha decided to end the relationship. “You’re in love with a person, but there is something about gender that is so central to identity it can be overwhelming if the person changes,” she said. Though separated, both Shane and Natasha share custody of the child.

Transgendering it seems, however, has one side benefit for lesbian couples -- presuming they are still lesbian. According to the Times, since Susannah became Jacob, the Anderson-Minshall’s marriage is recognized by the state of California. They celebrated their nuptials March 19, 2006, said the Times.

"20 Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse; 21 for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened. 22 WHILD CLAIMING TO BE WISE, THEY BECAME FOOLS. 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for the likeness of an image of mortal man or of birds or of four-legged animals or of snakes. 24 Therefore, God handed them over to impurity through the lusts of their hearts for the mutual degradation of their bodies. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 Therefore, GOD HANDED THEM OVER TO DEGRADING PASSIONS. THEIR FEMALES EXCHANGED NATURAL RELATIONS FOR UNNATURAL, 27 AND THE MALES LIKEWISE GAVE UP NATURAL RELATIONS WITH FEMALES AND BURNED WITH LUST FOR ONE ANOTHER MALES DID SHAMEFUL THINGS WITH OTHER. MALES and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper." (Romans 1:20-28)

if we're all made in god's image, then god 'embodies' male and female as we all do. in some the balance is not as neat as in others.

I have to take issue with the use of "transgender" as a verb. The implication that being transgendered is a choice or a behavior is false. This has been demonstrated over and over again and is accepted by all who have open minds. It seems to me that anyone who believes that "transgendering" is a behavior is being willfully ignorant. God creates a wonderful variety of creatures in this world, including humans who have the physical characteristics of both sexes. Why is it such a stretch to realize that the mental is also part of our physical being and that a mental paradigm can exist in a contrary physical body? Why can so many not accept that maybe transgendered people are created by God, the same way every other living thing is? Being trans is not about sex, it's about identity - it's not about what turns a person on, it's about who they are.

Transgendered identity is a mental illness. Transgendered individuals are confused about what sex they are. Even a sex-organ mutilation operation will not change an individual's sexual identity at the level of chromosomes. You're either XY or XX. That's fixed, God-given, objective reality. You either live in accord with it or you don't.

Mark you need to do more research on this issue. For example, Klinefelter's syndrome, 47,XXY or XXY syndrome is a condition caused by a chromosome aneuploidy. Affected males have an extra X sex chromosome. The principal effect is abnormal testicular development and reduced fertility. A variety of other physical and behavioral differences and problems are common, though severity varies and many boys and men with the condition have few detectable symptoms. In fact there are quite a few other possible combinations such as Turner syndrome XO, Triple X syndrome XXX, XYY syndrome XYY, Mosaicism XO/XY, de la Chapelle syndrome XX male, Swyer syndrome XY female, and there are many other individuals who do not follow the typical patterns (such as individuals with four or even more sex chromosomes). Thus, people nowadays may be more likely to look towards the sex chromosomes than, for example, the histology of the gonads. However, according to researcher Eric Vilain at the University of California, Los Angeles, "the biology of gender is far more complicated than XX or XY chromosomes Many different criteria have been proposed, and there is little consensus. Rather then to rush to and judge people indiscriminately it would be wise first to consider all the facts.

Regina said: "Why can so many not accept that maybe transgendered people are created by God, the same way every other living thing is?" Because God does not create anything or anyone that goes against His natural order. It doesn't matter what this woman's genitals are, she is a woman at the chromosomal level. THAT can NOT be altered.

KaraLynn, How Cheeky of You To Presume To Speak For GOD. Too Many People Assuming A False Sense of Divinity In Our Church.

"God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them" -- Genesis 1:27 "Every human being is by nature a sexual being, and belongs from birth to one of the two sexes. This fact is not contradicted by the phenomenon of so-called hermaphroditism--any more than any other sickness or deformity militates against the fact that there is such a thing as human nature and that every human being, even the deformed or sick human being, has the same nature and is a human being precisely because of it. In the same way every human being is a sexual being, and membership of one of the two sexes means that a person's whole existence has a particular orientation which shows itself in his or her actual internal development." -- Pope John Paul II, "Love & Responsibility", pg. 47

Victoria said: "KaraLynn, How Cheeky of You To Presume To Speak For GOD" You'll not only have to call me cheeky, but the Church cheely as well. The Church DOES speak for God and I am simply repeating Church teaching. Joel: "Karalynn did you read my post or just ignore it? Just wondering." I ignored it. I'm don't pledge my allegiance to scientific "fact". I pledge my allegiance to God and His Church.

No, KaraLynn, you do not speak for Our Church, or Our GOD. I have read many of your comments and they are filled with hate. You are what is known as a Professional Cathaholic. I am ashamed of you and for you.

Victoria said: "You are what is known as a Professional Cathaholic. I am ashamed of you and for you." And you are what's called a Liberal Catholic, a Dissident--an Apostate. You should be ashamed of your own self and who you are. I make no apologies for who I am.

James 1:18-20 (New International Version) 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. 19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Is it so hard to act in a thoghtful loving way even if you disagree??
